Increase Font Size Article body Auburn University has been selected as the host for the International Writing Across the Curriculum Conference, an annual event that focuses on integrating writing into disciplinary courses.
Jana Gutierez, associate professor in foreign languages and literatures; Yuxin Sun, graduate student in counseling psychology and a Miller Writing Center consultant; and James Truman, assistant director of the Office of University Writing, explained their work on multilingual tutoring in the Miller Writing Center.
Additionally, researchers examine the signature assignments using keyword and multidimensional analyses to quantitatively assess the growth of tutors. When the home institution of the researchers adopted LEAP Undergraduate Learning Outcomes init became clear that, as a campus without a formal WAC program, the Writing Center was poised to facilitate the assessment endeavor in the area of writing requirements specific to general education.
Representing five colleges, the attendees from the Auburn community participated in panel discussions that demonstrated their strategies for writing across disciplines.
Since that time, the Writing Center has coordinated professional learning communities and assessment retreats for the first year writing program.
The conference was at Denver Marriott City Center. This research project specifically focuses on learning outcomes for one population: The conference will bring together K teachers, extension programs, community literacy programs, libraries and arts programs to create a conference where people with differing expertise can connect and share ideas.

The conference began inand members from the Auburn community and writing initiative task force have attended and presented each year since Because the conference includes faculty from all disciplines as well as different types of institutions, it fosters multidisciplinary conversations and collaborations.
Attendees from Auburn participated on seven panels: This poster displays the assessment instruments; describe the administration process; share results from the writing self-efficacy survey, summative evaluation of the signature assignment, and the corpus linguistic analysis; and articulate how results inform future training and professional development opportunities as well as unit reports for administrators.
The process naturally prompted the Writing Center to rethink its own assessments, with particular emphases on the three groups the Writing Center serves: WOU Writing Center focused on measuring tutor development: WOU Writing Center staffs also attended different sessions contributed by other university writing centers.
The conference was successful, and the staffs learned a lot and had many inspired thoughts. A group of 19 faculty and students from Auburn recently returned from the writing conference, which was held June in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
